A Service Aware Protection Overlay for Ethernet Link Aggregation

The paper proposes an overlay scheme which adds service awareness to an Ethernet Link Aggregation Distributor for critical service classes. The scheme delivers resource guarantees for these service classes on the aggregate capacity, both during normal operation of the Link Aggregation Group, as well as in case of partial member link failures. Some considerations are provided on tailoring the scheme, in order to account for quality-of-resilience requirements for different service classes, equipment protection, or shared risk resource groups in general.
