Inhalt:
Indoor atmospheric corrosion of metals, such as those used for contact applications, is governed by the same physical, chemical and electrochemical processes as outdoors. The environmental conditions differ greatly, however, and from this usually follow reduced indoor corrosion rates compared to outdoors. Although corrosion effects indoors only seldom have any influence on the structural integrity of objects, they may still have significant influence on functional properties of, e.g., electronic materials. This review discusses important aspects of indoor atmospheric corrosion: characteristic features of indoor environments, experimental techniques used for indoor corrosion, the influence of indoor corrodants, indoor corrosion rates and corrosion products, and briefly, corrosion effects of electronics.
