Due to its rotational field symmetry, the radial waveguide is the most suited exposure device to investigate possible effects of radio frequency (rf) signals on many biological samples at a time, e.g. of mobile communication signals (GSM and UMTS) on hippocampal slice cultures and neurospheres as in the present case. A new concept is used to expose the desired high number of specimen in the same incubator, namely doublestacked radial waveguides. The maximum specific absorption rate (SAR) of 2 W/kg for e.g. 72 hippocampal slices is obtained at a generator power of approx. 10 W.
