Ambient intelligence and sensor networks will without any doubt penetrate our homes, offices and warehouses in the next decade. Since the sensor nodes of these networks have to work wirelessly and with an autonomous supply, power consumption is extremely important in this context. Consequently, pulsed or impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IRUWB) seems to be the ideal candidate for these networks due to its robustness to multipath and interference and higher multi-user capacity. In these systems, data is sent by transmitting ultra-low power pulses over a wide frequency band. Hence, the receiver has to deal with these very shortduration and broadband pulses to recover data from them
