Dielectric loading has been used as a miniaturization technique in the design of Ultra Wideband (UWB) microstrip fed monopole antennas. A sandwich of commercially available substrate layer has been padded to each side of the antennas to achieve considerable size reductions. Three monopole antenna prototypes were built and tested to validate the concept. The structures were further investigated in deployment scenarios and the influence of a metallic box and human users on antenna matching was tested.
