A deterministic procedure to design linear aperiodic arrays generating a rectangular shaped beam is presented. The procedure is obtained by simply extending an algorithm introduced in the ‘60s by Doyle for the design of pencil beam like pattern. This kind of solution may permit reducing cost and complexity of the beamforming networks especially when large arrays are considered. Two possible implementations are compared.
