Inhalt:
The dynamics of a single particle is entirely determined by the guide fields in a linear accelerator. Differently from this case a large number of particles in the beam changes the high intensity beam behave. Collective phenomena in linear accelerators are effects caused by the large number of particles; the most important phenomenon is the instability. Particles which move in their surroundings create sizable fields which act back on the beam. Since the longitudinal phase space is a design criterion of linear accelerators (linac) and linac base light sources, the change of the longitudinal distribution by the space charge fields is investigated.
