This paper presents a coil topology optimization method for maximizing the output power and output power density of resonant vibration transducers with oscillating cylindrical magnet. In a first step a global design domain around the magnet is defined. Afterwards the most efficient positions for coil windings are determined. The results are used to start a virtual winding process which begins at the most efficient winding positions and continues until the output power gets maximal. The coil shape which results in a maximum power and power density respectively is different from the commonly used cylindrical coils with rectangular cross-section. However the benefit of the topology optimization depends on the design specifications. For fixed magnet dimensions and undetermined construction volume the output power can be increased by 80% with respect to commonly used architectures with cylinder magnet. However for constrained construction volume condition and variable magnet dimension there is no benefit of the topology optimization.
