Inhalt:
The presented paper develops investigation and simulation methods to analyse the production and the spreading of radiated emission of converters and power modules. These methods are intended as fundament for further investigations to evaluate measures for noise suppression direct at the main sources: power modules and converters. Therefore the prediction of radiated emissions is focused and the EMI behaviour of a power module as a source of interference is investigated and analysed up to several 100MHz. A defined test setup is introduced as well as its corresponding time and frequency domain simulations. Semiconductor noise-source-models for frequency domain constitute the core of a novel type of frequency domain simulation. The electromagnetic properties of the module are derived by PEEC (Partial Element Equivalent Circuit) based calculations and used with the semiconductor models in circuit simulation. This approach offers the possibility to simulate the measurement results of an EMI test-receiver within a few minutes. The crucial parameters of the spreading paths and semiconductors of the module are identified and their influence to radiation is discussed. Further research effort and possible redesign measures to reduce the radiation of power modules are deduced from the results of the investigation.
