Inhalt:
The synthesis and characterization of mesoporous tin oxide and its application as a high temperature methane sensor are presented. Tin oxide was synthesized by the nanocasting method. This method uses rigid porous structure matrices to form a cast of the matrix inside its pores. In this work mesoporous silica of the KIT-6 pore structure was used. The obtained tin oxide material features a high specific surface area and an ordered mesopores. The porous structure is stable against high temperatures up to 600 °C without any significant loss of specific surface area. This makes the material a promising choice as a resistive sensor material for the detection of methane. Test measurements show that the sensitivity of the material to 4000 ppm methane is 2.4 times higher at 600 °C than at 500 °C. It is therefore an ideal candidate for the use in selective methane sensing using temperature cycles.
