The amplitudes and phases of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data depend on the antenna radiation patterns, the vector nature of electromagnetic wave propagation, and the electromagnetic properties of the subsurface. The goal of migrating GPR data is to obtain images that accurately represent the subsurface electromagnetic property contrasts. This requires migration algorithms that explicitly account for the radiation patterns and vector-wave propagation. An exact-field vector-migration algorithm produces images with amplitude variations in qualitative agreement with theoretically expected amplitudes. In contrast, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Gazdag and far-field vector-migration algorithms yield distinctly false amplitude variations.
