The I-D range profiles are suitable features for target identification and target discrimination because they provide discriminative information on the geometry of the target. The near region range profile of the buried object are investigated with numerical solutions for the electric field integral equation (EFIE). The scattering response from the buried object is calculated accurately by the radiation of the induced currents inside the buried object based on the EM numerical simulation. From the simulated range profiles, the buried depth and the size of the object could also be reconstructed.
