Inhalt:
The paper gives reasons for the necessity for a simulation environment of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Evolved Packet System (EPS) and shows the state of the developed EPS simulation environment. The EPS contains the Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio access network (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network, E-UTRAN) and the core network, the Evolved Packet Core (EPC). Furthermore, advantages and possibilities of a simulation environment based on the discrete event network simulator ns-3 are outlined. To show the state of the developed EPS simulation environment an overview is given of the EPS followed by the presentation of the already implemented protocols and network entities. To provide additional insights into the possibilities of the EPS simulation environment, selected simulation scenarios are outlined by means of use cases.
