Surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors have been successfully applied in gaseous and liquid sensing, due to the need for real-time, rapid and direct detection. In the application of breath diagnosis by analyzing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and exhaled breath condensate (EBC), small sampling volume and complexity of samples have to be taken into consideration. We present two systems to illustrate some techniques in the utilization of SAW sensors for gaseous and liquid detection of exhaled breath, e.g. sensor design, interface leading samples to sensor, electronic interface, etc. Keywords - SAW; VOCs; EBC; system design
