The paper presents the study results regarding the possibility of using energy storage solutions in smart distribution networks. The paper will give an overview concerning different possible applications of Energy Storage and the benefits for customers. As an example the paper will also describe the initial results of a field test with a 750 kVA / 500 kWh Li-Ion based Energy Storage connected to a 20 kV medium voltage network in order to actively influence power quality issues.
