This work reports a cyclic prefix free CO-OFDM approach. To achieve a high ISI tolerance, windowing is applied to every OFDM symbol. All channel effects, which are mainly caused by chromatic dispersion and phase rotation, are compensated by a pilot-aided channel compensation scheme in the frequency domain after FFT. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches due to bit error ratio (BER) and spectral efficiency. Additionally, the validated method contains no feedback loop and no CD precompensation. Experimental results show that the system is bit error free for a fiber length of 320 km.
