In current systems there are significant amounts of spectrum with only little or even no activity, which could be used in a more efficient fashion. In this paper a Dynamic Spectrum Allocation (DSA) scheme is presented and implemented that addresses two major objectives: Efficient utilization of spectrum and mitigation of interference. The developed DSA scheme allocates spectrum according to occurring service demands, while accounting for location-specific interference constraints. Simulation results point out the gain that can be achieved through the DSA algorithm on a system and user level, where a respectable saving of bandwidth over time can be achieved. This leads to a higher spectral efficiency, where unused spectral resources could be re-used by another RAT or at a different location and “idle“ times of radio resources are minimized. Further, the developed DSA scheme achieved increased user satisfaction compared to the reference case.
