In modern automation technique there is still a clear trend towards servo drives with an ever increasing torque density but appropriate acquisition cost. The Transverse Flux Machine is a promising motor principle to meet these requirements. Thanks to a very simple variation in active length, there is a logistic advantage compared to conventional drives. The simple coil geometry (ring windings) facilitates the stator manufacturing, especially regarding small and micro drives. Furthermore, this type of machine can achieve a very high number of pole pairs without a significant increase in production cost. By this, the demand for high inner torque related to the available motor volume gets satisfied. So far, however, always the same technical disadvantages prevent a widespread use of this type of machine. In particular their complex electromagnetic calculation and mechanical problems are main reasons. This paper shows how to apply new designing approaches to achieve an advantageous machine design. The theoretic results got validated by tests at a running prototype.
