The paper is concerned with the conversion of a distributed-parameter boundary control system to the associated abstract Cauchy problem with unbounded control operator. Although this issue has been studied intensively, the known representations of the control operator do mostly not lead to an easy interpretation since this operator has distributional character. The proposed approach constructs the control operator as the limit of a sequence of operators which are represented by concrete functions on the spatial domain. This leads to an easy to interpret characterization of the control operator and helps to gain insight into its structure. The approach is applied to a one-dimensional heat conductor with boundary control.
