Inhalt:
Economic pressure to maximize line utilization and the growing inclusion of decentralized energy generation are today's biggest challenges to the stability of the electrical grid. Poorly damped power system oscillations can reveal the presence of dynamical disturbances in the network and are a warning sign for a reduced stability margin. To enhance power systems reliability, improved oscillation monitoring techniques for the early detection of critical system events are urgently needed. Using practical measurement examples from the transmission as well as the distribution level, we describe the benefits of online frequency domain analysis for power systems monitoring and stability assessment.
