This paper describes the integration of an ABB industrial robot with a Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio (MRDS) enabled mobile robot platform. A generic software solution has been devised which can be used for any ABB industrial robot and a feasibility demonstrator has been built for some initial experiments and evaluations. The feasibility demonstrator has been built to help understand current state-of-the-art in commercially available mobile robot navigation and evaluate / demonstrate capabilities of current technology with a mobile manipulator demonstrator platform. Indoor "shop floor" like environments are considered for this demonstrator. The results of using the feasibility demonstrator for track-motion applications are described.
