Canola is an important commodity and managing threats to canola production is important. This crop is susceptible to a host of diseases and infestations, with risk tied to growth stage. In this study, TerraSAR-X and RADARSAT-2 data are used to determine whether SAR can distinguish among canola’s various developmental stages. Preliminary results indicate that both the cross-polarization ratio (X- and C-Band) and other C-Band parameters (volume-surface ratio, α angle) change as the crop flowers and under goes seed development. These growth stages are important in determining risk of fungus and insect infestation and this research suggests further investigation is warranted.
