Solid-state impact sintering in vacuum of composites based on copper and silver

The consolidation of composites based on copper and silver by a method of impact sintering in vacuum is carried out. The method allows obtaining dense samples at lowered temperatures and with high mechanical properties. In particular, in the composites of (vol. %) Cu-35Cr and Cu-65Cr compacted at 850 °C the following level of properties was reached: transverse rupture strength (TRS) 950, 1100 MPa; Vickers hardness 1550, 1700 MPa, respectively. In Cu-50WC samples compacted at 1050 °C and having ultrafine-grained structure, the above properties were: TRS 1500-1700 MPa and Vickers hardness 3800 MPa; in fine-grained Cu-50W samples densified at 900-950 °C, TRS is equal 1350-1550 MPa with a hardness of 3200-3600 MPa, and in the Ag-34Ni samples with coarse-grained and fine-grained structure, densified at 650 °C, the values of TRS 500, 850 MPa, tensile ultimate strength 300, 400 MPa and hardness 100, 125 HB, respectively, are obtained. In addition to the solution of a problem of improvement of the mechanical properties of aforementioned composites, the developed method of powder billets consolidation allows obtaining the complex or combined parts from different materials.
