Inhalt:
This paper proposes a novel data bus concept for Lithium-Ion traction batteries used in electric and hybrid electric vehicles. This concept is based on the power line communication (PLC) and considers a good alternative to the existing data bus systems used up to date in battery management systems (BMS) for automotive applications. The PLC approach for battery systems is described in this paper in details. The circuit based models used for the battery, as well as the external battery periphery including high voltage (HV) cables, electromagnetic compatibility filters, and the power electronics are introduced. Sample results for impedance measurements are discussed. The possible PLC coupling mechanisms are also described. The paper also goes into the implementation of the physical layer for the PLC system using both single and multi-carrier modulation data transmission schemes.
