The German „Energiewende“ and the accompanying change of paradigm require energy management at all levels of the energy system. For now, energy management systems are mainly used and equipped with utilization concepts in the industrial sector. Consequently there is a need to extend the field of application to the household sector. In this context, it is important to develop use cases to find early adopters of this new technology and to enable multiplier effects. This paper describes a concept for one family houses and especially for apartment buildings, that optimizes the use of one photovoltaic (PV) storage system by one family or the joint use by a number of apartments. Additional optimization potential is accessed via the integration of contractors. The global objective is to present a holistic concept, that provides a multi-level energy management system that optimizes on the level of the apartment, the whole building and the integration in the energy market all in one.
