At RWTH Aachen University, a medium-voltage dc research grid is planned to be installed on campus Melaten. This research dc grid will connect several university test benches in the multi-megawatt range with each other. Within this paper, the structure of the dc grid and the dc-grid connection of the test benches is presented. Furthermore, legal aspects that have to be considered with the construction of the grid are discussed. The research work presented within this paper is carried out within the Flexible Electrical Networks Consortium consisting of RWTH Aachen University institutes and industry partners. It is supported by the Federal Ministry of Research and Education.
