Flexible Electric Networks of the Future: Project on Control and Automation in MVDC grids

New requirements for flexible power flow in medium voltage distribution networks necessitate the connection of ac systems with dc grids. The control and automation of the resulting hybrid ac-dc systems is a challenge to be addressed. The project presented here investigates the development of control schemes suitable for pure dc and hybrid ac-dc grids, and their realization through automation systems for these peculiar networks. The concepts and implementation will be validated in real time simulation platforms. This paper describes the work method of the project and discusses the main factors that should be taken into consideration in this work.
