Inhalt:
In this paper an OFDM transmission system including a FPGA-based real-time transmitter is being investigated. A special focus is set on the influence of I/Q imbalance on the OFDM signal quality. The compensation of I/Q imbalance with a digital signal processing algorithm is presented. The transmitter can generate with a sampling rate of 16 GSa/s, data with 64 Gbit/s error-free in a back-to-back configuration. In this case the I/Q imbalance correction can improve the mean SNR by about 5 dB. A data rate of 21 Gbit/s is achieved for an optical transmission over 30 km. The I/Q imbalance correction algorithm can improve the mean SNR by about 1.5 dB in this case.
