Micro-doppler Analysis on Short Waves Modulated by the One-dimensional Variant Current

There exist bound gravity-capillary waves (bound waves) on the ocean surface, apart from free gravity-capillary waves (free waves) that satisfy the linear dispersion relation. The Doppler spectra show that bound waves move at the speed of the dominate waves. However, the modulation characteristics of these bound waves are little studied be-fore. The main contribution of the paper is that the hydrodynamic modulation mechanism of bound waves can be analyzed through Micro-Doppler spectra. Micro-Doppler features of radar signals show that the wave-current modulation level of bound waves is stronger than free waves and different from free waves on the trend. In conclusion, the wave-current modulation of bound waves is consistent with the long waves, which can improve the accuracy of mapping sea surface current.
