In this paper we propose a new concept for an UHF RFID reader with localization features. The concept complies with the guiding principles of the fourth industrial revolution. Therefore, the described reader system shows the characteristics of an intelligent, flexible and adaptive system based on the model of cyber physical systems. After describing the localization and the software-based approaches to interpret the gathered data, we give a use case scenario to clarify the novel concept of a reader system.
