Inhalt:
Large stationary battery storage systems are increasingly installed in electric power systems to alleviate undesired sideeffects caused by variable renewable energy sources. This contribution presents an operational, prototypical battery storage system, installed in a rural low-voltage distribution grid with high shares of variable renewable energy sources. The system’s use-case is briefly described and its setup elaborated. The implications of the chosen battery technology on design considerations for the auxiliary system components with regards to energy efficiency, battery aging, safety, and system complexity are explained. The associated complexity and challenges of developing stationary battery storage systems are highlighted.
