This paper presents the first development stage of the airborne SAR demonstrator PAMIR-Ka, as well as the global concept for the upcoming extension to a multifunctional long range SAR/GMTI phased array pulsed radar system. The publication will also reveal the results of the first airborne experiments carried out using the first stage SAR demonstrator. During these airborne experiments, the system has proven its ability to acquire SAR images with an ultra-high resolution of less than 2 cm in ground range and azimuth, due to its simultaneous bandwidth of 8 GHz in the Ka-band.
