Inhalt:
The worldwide increasing amount of HVDC systems demands the implementation of cable systems. Especially, extruded HVDC cable systems and their prefabricated accessories are essential for a reliable energy transmission. Those insulation systems require a deep understanding of the material behaviour. Especially, due to DC specific effects, detailed investigations in terms of electrical conductivity and space charge behaviour are important. The practically obtained material characteristics can be adopted as input data for modelling and simulations of HVDC components. An integral evaluation of HVDC cable insulation systems requires the investigation of full size cable components under thermal and electric tests. This paper addresses the challenges of polymer materials and components for HVDC applications and gives an overview of an integral approach for a fundamental evaluation of HVDC cable systems.
