Digital beamforming (DBF) technology can provide higher gain and has been gaining great attention in the field of High-resolution Wide-swath (HRWS) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) recently. However, the resource occupation is directly proportional to the channel number. A scheme of weighting on the intermediate frequency (IF) signal DBF-SAR (IDBSAR) was designed to reducing the digital resource. In order to verify the feasibility and operability, a 16-channels airborne X-band DBF-SAR system, featured by weighting on IF signal, has been designed by IECAS. An outfield flight experiment was successfully conducted in eastern Guangdong Province in November 2019.
