Measuring the position and speed of rotating axes is a common application in mechanical engineering. There are optical, inductive and magnetic sensing principles in the market. In the automotive sector, magnetic based principles are widely adopted because of their high level of robustness and reliability. Hall based sensors have been established over last few decades. However, they reach limits due to new accuracy requirements to support the climate target. Not only the lowering CO2 targets require highly accurate sensors. Also new sensor applications such as autonomous driving or dog clutches in purely electric cars also benefit from the increased accuracy. This is why sensors based on MR technology are becoming more and more popular and are also replacing Hall-based sensors in the conservative automotive sector.
