The Covid-19 pandemic has further highlighted the crucial role of the electric power system for the humanity and for the industrial society as we know it today. The safety of billions of people around the world depends on its proper functioning, which must be guaranteed in all circumstances and conditions. The pandemic has devastated people’s lives and changed our habits in a sudden and unexpected way. Its marks on the power system are multifaceted and estimated in some cases to be long lasting after the end of emergency. In this paper we aim to analyze those aspects with the broader objective in mind of learning from the exceptional situation and of enabling a sustainable, secure and reliable energy system.
