Inhalt:
Our paper presents a method to manage a pool of solar power plants (SPPs) and wind power plants (WPPs) supported by a battery energy storage system (BESS) to reliably provide frequency containment reserve (FCR). The optimization allocates the FCR to the different plants, while aiming to reduce the necessary curtailment of the SPPs and WPPs. The concept of model predictive control (MPC) is used to include intraday forecasts in the decision making and the resulting optimization problem is solved using Mixed-Integer Linear Programming. In a case study with a pool of seven SPPs, seven WPPs, and a BESS, the method proofs to be advantageous to alternative pool management approaches.
