Inhalt:
The continuously rising utilization of the distribution grids in Germany has led to focused research in smart distribution grid techniques and grid automation. Simulation of electrical grids is the groundwork for most smart grid applications, but the validation of smart grid systems in real world conditions is still a difficult challenge. Grid operators hesitate to install smart distribution grid systems in fear of damaging their infrastructure or disrupting customers. Therefore, a bridge between development and product is needed. At the University of Wuppertal, a Smart Distribution Laboratory Grid was conceptualized and build in order to realize this missing link. The paper will go into detail on how the laboratory was designed, built and what potential it may provide to the future development of smart grid systems.
