In the course of the energy turnaround, the market for ventilation applications in noise sensitive surroundings has experienced an intense growth. According to [1], air-to-water heat pump sales in Germany grew by 61 % in 2022, compared to the previous year. As a result, a low noise emission of the fan unit has become as important as system efficiency and product costs. A PMSM motor for use in centrifugal-, axial- or housing fans is described. The acoustic behaviour was improved through cogging torque reduction by replacing hard ferrite (HF) segment magnets with a plastic bonded hard ferrite (HF/p) magnet ring.
