Inhalt:
This paper presents the results from an investigation of the eddy current losses occurring in the rotor of a Permanent Magnet Vernier Synchronous Motor. For this purpose, a short description of the operating principle is given first. Then, a detailed analysis of the eddy current losses occurring in solid rotors (without sheet lamination) is presented. For this purpose, a 66 pole Permanent Magnet Vernier Synchronous Motor is studied by using transient 2D Finite Element Method and the results are validated by measurements. The investigations and measurements show that, because of the operating, a solid rotor design, as is usual for synchronous motors, is not practicable for the Permanent Magnet Vernier Synchronous Motor.
