Blood draw procedures are conmon medical interventions, but they can lead to complications if not perfomed accurately. In this paper, we propose an impedance-based approach to enhance feedback to clinicians during needle insertion. Our method involves integrating a thin-film sensor with a hypodemic needle, allowing for multi-local impedance measurements. The needle features a total of 16 electrodes forming four tetrapolar impedance measurement spots. However, challenges related to stability, contact, and calibration were observed. Despite these challenges, our approach shows potential for localized tissue classification during needle insertion. Further refinement and exploration of tissue classification algorithms and visualization techniques are needed. The proposed approach could also find application in spinal and epidural anaesthesia, or nephrostomies.
