We present a cantilever-free magnetic actuator, that allows for multistable vertical positioning within a movement range of several mm. Compared to classical solenoid actuation, it features three predefined stable positions in which no energy is consumed. We optimised the shape of the magnetic field to define these stable positions. In a proof of concept, our actuator achieved a response time down to 3.6 ms for the total displacement of 3.3 mm.
