Cables are developed to meet specific user requirements, and each requirement places restrictions on the cable's design. Additionally, the requirements are often opposing to each other which drives the designer to develop new technologies to meet all the requirements simultaneously. For example, customers require high fiber count cables, which drives the designs to large high-density cables, but they need to jet these cables into small ducts. The development of the new high-density cables and flexible ribbons made with 190-micron bend-resilient fibers is described and how these components work together to make globally compliant cables. Herein are presented the results from the development and testing of high-density cables with 200-micron flexible ribbons.
