On Transient Impedance Measurements for Various Grounding Systems

This paper focuses on the assessment of grounding system impedance for power generation and transmission facilities under transient conditions, such as lightning. SES-Europe has developed a simple impulse generator and a method for measuring the transient grounding impedance of various grounding systems to evaluate their performance and ensure operator safety. The results can be interpreted by constructing a digital twin that comprises a realistic computer model. The paper concludes with a presentation of measurement examples.
