Inhalt:
The rapid integration of renewable energy sources into electrical grids, in conjunction with long-term processes of plan-ning and permitting alternating current grid expansion, has given rise to increasingly pronounced congestion during sys-tem operation in Germany. A potential solution to address congestion lies in the utilization of high-voltage direct current connections, which provide inherent higher loading capabilities for curative congestion management. This study explores the potential of thermal reserves to contribute to congestion management, including the perspective of a system operator.
