We designed a new combination of the channel coding (Turbo code) along with multiple transmit antennas (Two antennas) to achieve transmit diversity and space division multiplexing transmission. The basic idea is from the receiver’s point of view and is referred to as virtual constellation mapping (VCM). An example to enhance the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) information data rate without changing any transmission bandwidth, transmitted power, and modulation scheme is also given. With this approach, the spectral efficiency is improved, such that information data rate can be increased about 30.3% compared with the 3GPP downlink 12.2 kbps framework. Computer simulation results showed that this scheme can achieve better bit error rate (BER) compared with the conventional 3GPP scheme.
