Inhalt:
Future mobile broadband cellular radio systems - sometimes called Bejond 3G or 4G - are actually a heavily investigated research topic. One major change to current cellular systems will be probably the network structure of the radio access network (RAN) which is up to now basically one basestation (BS) with a number of sector antennas in the center of each cell or site. From the operator point of view it is very desirable to reuse existing BS sites for future radio systems. Under the assumption of much broader channel bandwidth and probably higher RF-frequencies it is commonly anticipated, that very high datarates in the order of hundred of Mbits/s together with high transmission range will be a challenge for typical site ranges in the order of 1 km. Therefore many groups work on multihop (MH) or relaying techniques to allow for increased cove rage. While acceptance for relaying is increasing the question of suitable deployment concepts for MH-networks arise. Here we compare di fferent approaches for high capacity broadband systems and will propose our wide area metropolitan MH-networks.
