Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) technology is an essential piece in the path towards an ubiquitous Internet. Routing is a central research topic in the field, which has achieved a certain degree of maturity in the last years. However, routing protocol parameter configuration should be further analysed since it may significantly impact network performance in terms of available bandwidth, latency, reactivity after topology changes and power consumption. In this paper, we perform tests in real MANET environments using the Optimized Link State Routing protocol (OLSR). We quantify the impact of a set of OLSR configurations on network performance, proving that route change latency may be reduced with the usage of adequate protocol parameter settings with a minimal impact on bandwidth resources and power consumption.
