The optimum iterative algorithm determining the maximum weighted rate sum in MIMO MAC (Multiple Access Channel) is proposed. The new algorithm is based on matrix eigenvalue decomposition and waterfilling power allocation. Using the proposed algorithm, the capacity performance of MIMO in the uplink of a cellular network has been evaluated numerically. The result shows that the capacity gain of the optimal multi-user transmission at each timeslot over single user transmission at each timeslot increases with the increasing of receive antenna number, which demonstrates that the conventional single user transmission is distinctly inferior to multi-user transmission in multi-user MIMO systems.
