The next generation of advanced SAR systems will base on pool of technologies which is no longer driven only by advancements in the military domain. More and more the achievements in the commercial market for telecommunications and multimedia as well as broadband wireless systems are building the driving force. This market has created the need for technologies at micro- and mm-wave frequencies and high-speed devices at favourable cost and will be available for space-borne systems. The main trends enabled by these technologies are higher integration and lower mass for a given performance or for even better performance. SAR systems with new capabilities at even lower prices become feasible.
